Some Random Questions

OK, I just have a few questions eating at me, if someone would like to act as a sounding board here. I keep seeing ads about controlling CO2 emissions. Excuse me for stating the obvious, but I don't think we can stop emitting CO2 because the last time I checked, that was carbon dioxide and that's what we all exhale every time we breathe out. So, we are all building up greenhouse gases as we breathe. Quick, everyone hold your breath! Ha! And have you heard the crazy thing about getting CO2 credits? So gimmicky. Like, you unplug everything and do a million things to conserve, and then you get "credit" for that conservation that you can turn around and waste on something like flying your own private jet somewhere. Am I missing something here? If we are trying to conserve, why would we conserve and then turn around and un-conserve? That is like if I'm saving up to, say, buy a car, and I cut my expenses and I save $100 towards the car and then I waste it all on candy (because that's what my kids do). In the end I didn't save a dang thing towards my car, and so is it wrong to assume that I didn't save the environment any more if I use up my "green" credits? Maybe that's it; maybe someone has been holding their breath too much and it's affected the oxygen intake to the brain, thus affecting their thinking process and that is how they come up with these things. But, seriously, any good ideas for keeping our planet healthy would be greatly appreciated.

Now another burning question. Who is holding up the internet? Like we all connect to this thing, but what are we connecting to? For example, if I post this, even if my computer dies, it's still here on the internet, but who is keeping it there? If I save all my pictures on flickr or something, if they crash and burn, do my files too, or is there some mystical something holding it suspended in cyberspace to be retrieved at any time. Or is there some grand central station to this thing and once it gets nuked, the whole thing's gone? Does anybody know?
