MIA

I've been gone for a long time. I've missed you all. Hope I catch up on everyone's blogs sometime soon. The time has come that I am going to have to do something to clean up my computer if I ever hope to be able to put any photos on it, or pretty much breathe in it's general direction. Guess what? I hardly have had a moment to get near it, let alone fix it. The big problem was adding a new camera software to it because Papi got me a digital video camera for Christmas. I know that Christmas and it's crazies are long since past, but with some technical help, here is one last photo: It seems Joseph was naughty this year and got put in time out.

What's been going on? Well, we had a fabulous Christmas eve dinner, and we did our traditional late night present opening, etc but then on the 25th, Papi set off to give his family a Christmas surprise. Yep, he flew to Chile. He got a great chance to go for very cheap and so he took it. The rest of us spent the day at my parent's house. The exciting news is that nothing big happened while we were alone, not one basement flooding! Now that's what I call progress. A friend came down from Idaho with her kids and we spent the New Year's week together and went to our ward's party, so we all kept busy. I could have been miserable New Years since I got engaged on New Years (Oh, not this New Years, that was 1989, or else Papi would be miserable and I would be working on my plan to get a divorce from my second husband before I got charged with bigamy and then try to dupe him into child visitations on weekends, thus leaving me free to get lots of things done!) but I figured, why think about it and be miserable? I used my talent of being distracted to distract me from missing Papi too much. One great tactic was to take out my energy on the kitchen which desperately needed me to clean and organize it and sterilize it so as to get rid of the cupboard moth invasion. (Some stragglers are still alive, and it's making me nervous, plus, I've become a total moth assassin.) I was up till 3 am most nights. Seems I don't know when to stop when someone isn't there to tell me. I forget to eat too, and all my pants are loose now. My other great tactic during "solitude" (if you can call being alone with 5 kids solitude) is to rent movies Papi would never watch and eat all the food he hates but I love. Having too many people to take care of probably helped too. And the fact that I could talk to him over the phone almost every day helped too. But, by the end of 3 weeks we were all ready to have him back and I was ready to give my kids away to anyone who wanted them by the time I got them to church that last Sunday after one jumped out the window and climbed on top of the shed, everyone went every which way and fought like cats and dogs, put their clothes on backwards, and in general acted like maniacs. But then, Papi couldn't get a flight out. That was depressing. Then, he finally did. Next, he got sick. Meniere's and international travel do not mix that well. He's spent half the time he's been home too dizzy to do anything. Currently, we're trying to get him in to see a doctor. Not that it will help much, but what else can you do? We are trying to get people really done with their science fair projects and a civil war project before next week because we sort of forgot to finish those projects over the summer. I'm behind on lots of Relief Society stuff too, but I guess most of those problems aren't going away, so I can still get to them. Plus, if I go too many months without getting in visiting teaching reports, probably they will get the hint and call me a visiting teaching leader. Enigma has been super busy doing a photo shoot which also required some help getting a costume ready from me and her grandma. Now she's getting ready for her training in Vegas. Wow, see how fast you can update a month when you get old and your memory gets fuzzy? It's great! Except when you realize you made a Christmas newsletter but never sent it and not only is it a month and a half late being sent, but the registration on your car is expiring in 3 days and one of those days is Sunday. Then that reminds you your car's steering went out too, and you didn't even write about all that fun, but you decide not to and opt to do something more responsible like work so you can buy groceries with the money that will replace to your bank account the money you paid for the repairs. I'll try to find some time to get on more often and share more of the nonsense or common sense going on around here. Take care should I not make it back for another month!

Christmas Crazy Continues

Wanna join Christmas Crazy? Link up here.
People who decorate the tree with Bionicles have to do SOMETHING with the ornaments. He looks like an elf with candy cane dreadlocks to me. For the tree, see here.
Need more crazy? Here's a few nativity scenes from past posts. Because now I can make them bigger. This is the last time I'll post them. At least this year. The Holy Cow.Mary had an accident in the wood shop- see her hands? Baby Jesus has removable arms, and the wise man is losing his head.
Power Rangers protection. Didn't know that they were the angels, did ya?
Why my children aren't asked to babysit. If you have lots of time on your hands, the whole posts are here and here.
Wonder how the nativity has fared? We still have it. The kids are rewriting history a bit. I think it was John's head that was brought on a platter to Herod, not the King's head delivered personally by the headless king to the baby Jesus, who needs a bath. Which he's apparently getting soon.

Christmas Crazy Friday?

Burgh Baby is having a Christmas Crazy event December 20. You can link up and show the excesses of the holiday decorating and such. I'm not sure she had something like our house in mind when she planned this event.

My dear Enigma and her latest heartthrob pulled out all the Christmas boxes. Then they couldn't figure out how to put the tree together. So they just left the guts lying all over the living room. I really didn't have time to deal with it for a few days and wondered if disemboweled trees would be our newest holiday tradition. Several ornaments were already broken, and I smirked when I saw some "shatterproof" ones in the store. Just let my boys have a hand at those, I assure you they'll find a way to shatter them. Then I found some time to at least put all the tree puzzle pieces in their place, but not enough time to lovingly and artfully un-scrunch and pose the branches. Then the boys got ahold of the tree and did their own decorating.

If I were a burglar, I would definitely avoid my house. We have a lot of creatures ready to jump out of the tree and pounce on you.Yes, those are toothpicks sprouting out of Sandman's chest. I can't explain why, but it makes him more menacing, don't you think? Then there's Megatron, a real force to be reckoned with and he's the jumbo size. This little Bionicle is ready to spin his weapon and slice you like a block of ham at a deli. His buddies are going to back him up, too.Want this thing flying around you like a mad hornet? I don't think so. And there are more of these guys ambushed all over in there. Bionicles don't scare you, you say? How about molting snakes?Or poisonous tree frogs?
Or menacing dragons? Or teddy bears?! Well, even boys have a tender side. It's Christmas on testosterone, people, and you've gotta love it, even if it seems out of place.

A typical Christmas, chez nous

27 Dec., 2004

Sleep in Heavenly Peace?

Never! But we have had a lot of fun! Kids are fun to watch at the holidays, they get so excited they're hyper. Then it's fun to watch them with their presents. How we love all the Christmas Carols, too:

"DECK THE HALLS WITH BALLS OF FLOUR!..." J. paid to have someone clean our couches the 23rd. Then he stain guarded them when he got home from work. Luckily I heard a noise the 24th right before I got in the shower and found the twins throwing flour around and they had gotten one flour handprint on a cushion already. I shudder to think what might have happened if I'd taken my shower first.

"O HOLY COW! HOW BRIGHTLY YOU ARE SHINING!"

"OH CRISTMAS TREE, OH CHRISTMAS TREE, YOU'RE HAVING A BAD HAIR DAY!" ….

Maybe because: "YOU ARE MEAN ONES, LITTLE GRINCHES, you've got mischief in your smiles! Why do you drag the tree all over, testing it in each electric socket in the house??"... (We will not be putting on ornaments next year either unless I can grow enough hot chile peppers in my garden this year to make a big garland.)

"YOU"D BETTER WATCH OUT, YOU"D BETTER NOT CRY, (you'd better not pour juice on the tree, put eggnog in the couch, throw the big bag of popcorn the neighbors gave us all over the living room, call 911 at your friend's house because he's not sharing, dump out mommy's dresser drawers and then climb them to the scissors and try to chop off your hair, break mommy's glasses and wear her pearl necklace, all in one day especially if that day is the 20th of December,) I'm telling you why, SANTA CLAUSE IS COMING TO TOWN!"

And "POPCORN BURNING IN A MICROWAVE, chalkboard spray paint up your nose*, yule log clonks being swung by a toddler, and folks dressed up in mom's kimono"…*(I made the babies a chalkboard for Christmas, it was ugly outside so I had to do it inside and inhaled a lot. A friend said I could put a piece of chalk up my nose and draw a picture.)

"OH THE WEATHER OUTSIDE IS FRIGHTFUL (for Mom), and snow at 10 pm's so delightful (for a kid) and since we've no place to go, we'll go outside and play in the snow." Then drink hot chocolate, and go to bed late but rosy cheeked! That was fun.

Did you know that Jesus got gold, and a “'fume”(perfume) called freakin' scents and myrrh? Just ask G. for more details.

The 24th we had a HUGE dinner with way too much food, J. made a steak, potato and mushroom sauce dish, rice, a shrimp salad, ham, a tomato salad, chips and vegetables and salsa, and lemon pie and torta de hoja for dessert. We had over a class mate of J's family and C. and J. We still had tons of leftovers. The kids loved their presents. Much playing has gone on since then, and some squabbling. C. has had a hard time not breaking things for some reason but seems to be pulling out of the destructive mode. The 25th we visited Mom and Dad and had a nice dinner and we had a lot of fun with all the family that night. Yesterday we went to church and just rested. Today and tomorrow I'm working some. Here are a few more pictures of some works of art:
